An astonishing discovery in the Old Orangery. An 18th century ruler hidden under the floor

In the course of renovation and conservation works conducted in the Old Orangery, a unique carpenter’s ruler - likely coming from around 1780 - was found. Although it is more than 230 years old, the tool has been preserved in a perfect state.
The carpenter’s folding ruler was located below the wooden floor in the Old Orangery. According to a preliminary examination, it was made in a manufactory and is calibrated in units corresponding to the Old-Polish inch.
After necessary conservation, the 18th century tool will be displayed in the Old Orangery - erected between 1785 and 1788 according to a design of the court architect Domenico Merlini.
